from "Strade Parallele"
IN THE CITY - Versione italiana
In the city,
footlose in the city.
Amongst the cars the buses
the bikes I walk.
I wink at the traffic-lights.
The traffic-lights paint the town.
They are metal plants
every thirty seconds they turn green
and then fade again.
Through the windows of the bar
you can see the barman, alone, in the evening
having his usual supper.
And you can day-dream, in the evening,
in Piazza Barche
and imagine that the cars
drive the men to theirs houses
and that the houses are magnets
enormous magnets, full of men,
women and children with
extraordinary magnetic powers.
And you can go back home now
and let your stereo set
switch itself on and play some good music.
And now bye bye and sleep well
and dream that you are happy
and dream that you are happy
My love.
