Today I have found this card:
“ Dear Giorgio,
here is your “sandwich”. I made it just for you, as I promised.
You will also find 1 jar of peanut butter and 1 jar of jelly, so you
can make your own peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.
It is very American… children
here eat them. Have one when you need a sugar -fix- “
Lynn
It was the summer of the 1986 and I had exposed many of my creative
works in a Exhibition in Venice called NO ROOTS.
My friend and work’s colleague Michela introduced to me Lynn one evening
in her room. Unexpectedly I saw that the photographs of Lynn was very similar
in shape of mine. Then Lynn visited my exposition and after some time arrived
for me a card from the USA in which Lynn asked me some photo that she had seen
on the exposition.
I answered that I would have sent the photographs but that it was
very expensive for me because was Cibachrome photos 30 per 40 centimetre.
In exchange I asked her to send me some sandwich !
After some time I received a delivery note from the Venice post office :
they notified me that a parcel was arrived for me from the USA.
I was go to the post office and I saw a big parcel. I didn’t remember
anything about the letter of Lynn and I arrived at home curious and a little
worried for this strange new.
I have opened the parcel.: inside two foam-rubber sandwiches with
plastic salame and cheese with toothpick with two little American flags, and
all the things that the card of Lynn describes. A big surprise for me that I
answered with a drawing to pay off my debt !
